MAATEE&SONS Wool Barathea Emergency Jacket
The tailored-style Emergency Jacket that MAATEE continues to propose.

The shoulders are fitted, while the body has room to spare. Its elongated silhouette makes this a jacket unlike any other, and uniquely MAATEE. The construction around the shoulders is particularly distinctive, designed so the sleeves fall smoothly straight down.

The fabric is barathea, a weave made from tightly twisted worsted wool. A variation on hopsack, a type of plain weave, it was originally used for formalwear and the like.
The Emergency style pairs exceptionally well with fabrics that have a pronounced drape, and personally, I think this is the best fabric yet.

Finally, why is this jacket called the Emergency Jacket?
I believe it first appeared in the 2021 Spring/Summer season, right around the time our shop opened.
The 2021 Spring/Summer collection was being planned in 2020. And what happened that year? COVID-19 cases surged, and a state of emergency was declared in Japan.
This jacket was conceived during that state of emergency.
Emergency—that's a name that feels so very MAATEE.
